Premiums are
ideal for both in-pack and on-pack promotions. However, there
is no limit as to how they can be used as a marketing tool and
can be expanded to fulfill whatever promotional campaign you may
have in mind, as demonstrated by British Petroleum's recent marketing
campaign.
We recently worked together with British Petroleum to developed
our Space Series into a very large-scale promotion, using them
not only as give-aways items, but also for redemptions, games,
and eventually, as the theme for their grand prize draw. By showing
you how they developed their marketing strategy, you can have
an idea as to what extent our products can be used to develop
your ideas into your next successful promotional campaign.
Concept:
Z zOriginally, British Petroleum (Singapore) was interested in
creating a promotional campaign to compete with Shell, one of
their competitors who at the time, was also running a very large
promotion. As Shell's marketing was targeted at the car owners,
BP did not want to compete head-to-head with them and instead
decided to take a unique approach and market toward the children
of the car owners. After listening to BP's requirements, our marketing
team proposed to them our Space Series of collectibles.
Development:
They were very interested in the series, but did not want to use
it only as a give-away. BP took our original concept and developed
an entire program from it. They created names for each of the
12 characters, developed a board game and comic book, and created
a contest with a grand prize draw for a family vacation. They
called it the BP "Alien Quest". The entire promotional
campaign lasted 10 weeks and was implemented in several stages.

Promote
the Promotion:
The first stage of the campaign was to let people know about the
promotion. To do this, they had people dress up in costumes of
the aliens and randomly gave out the Space Figurines to people,
letting them know about the upcoming promotion and contest. This
was done for 3 days and more than 10,000 figurines were given
away during this time.
Enter to Win!:
The actual contest began at the second stage, which involved collecting
the 12 Alien Figurines. Each week, a new pair of figurines was
featured and were given away with each specified minimum purchase.
Every pair came in a small box and on each box were fun and interesting
facts about the solar system, making this program also educational.
Each pair also came with two Alien Quest Contest Stickers. The
contest required collecting sixof the twelve stickers and submitting
them with an entry form. Therefore, by needing to collect items,
it encouraged repeat purchases from customers, |

Give-Aways: |
Also, to
encourage early participation in the contest, free solar system
posters, Alien Quest Space Masks, T-shirts, and comics were
given away while quantities lasted.
Maintain Interest with Redemption Items:
At the same time, Space Accessories and Space Vehicles were
available in one of two sets through redemption, meaning that
with a minimum purchase and an additional small cash amount,
these sets could be purchased.Grand Prize Draw
At the conclusion of the program, there was a grand prize draw
for a family vacation to DisneyWorld in the United States.
As you can see, our original Space Series (as well as all our
mini-collectable series) can be used for more than simply in-pack
or on-pack promotions. There are no limits and their use can
be extended as far as your marketing needs require.
